Non Food Biodiesel Will be Sold in Ten Years

Non Food Biodiesel Will be Sold in Ten Years. biodiesel fuel Second generation, which are derived from non-food crops will begin to market in about ten years, said Mercedes Ballesteros, head of Biomass the Centre for Energy, Environment and Technology (CIEMAT).

These new biodiesel fuel will be produced from non-food biomass such as cereal straw, wood waste, municipal solid waste and even vegetable oil treated with hydrogen, a cheap raw materials and no other applications to replace the plants fit for human consumption used today.

Spain has a plant using feedstock cereal straw. Beatriz Alvarez, of the section biofuels of the Association of Energy Producers Renewable (APPA ) , believes that first biofuels nonfood will trade in a couple of years, while the researcher Enrique Espí see this technology as a simple transition to fuel from algae .

The truth is that the Plan Action for Renewable Energy prepared by the Government does not foresee a production significant of biofuels from second generation to 2018 and also does not specify the percentage to be mixed with the fossils .

Some experts, like Professor Ballesteros, argue that biodiesel second-generation can be used " at very high and even pure " , while others, as a spy, suggest that the composition of biodiesel and bioethanol " is the same, come from which comes " and , therefore, works the same.

According Espí, technology for developing second generation biofuels is already available, but now the problem is to produce large quantities and, above all, do it profitably.

The future, experts say, is in the production of biodiesel from algae, since they contain large quantities of oil , are easy to grow and cheap.
