Biodiesel Fuel Trial by Fulton Hogan

Trans-Tasman civil engineering contractor Fulton Hogan explains it will try running its autos on biodiesel fuel containing recycled cooking oils and canola oil made from oilseed rape grown in the Hurunui district and other dry areas of Canterbury. The trial could finally result in Fulton Hogan running the majority of its New Zealand fleet and mobile generators on biodiesel mixed with the ordinary diesel made of petrol. The trials will start with Christchurch-based diesel autos and plant, employing a mix of ten % biodiesel in a representative mixture of light and heavy vans, resources and automobiles for 3 months before they're switched to a twenty percent mix.

The trials are the 1st enormous dedication to use of biodiesel by contractors since Meridian Energy asserted it would use biodiesel in earthmoving machinery if its Waitaki hydro scheme was given approval. In May, Fulton Hogan commenced working with government owned coal miner Solid Energy to develop a fuel storage and distribution centre at Nelson to offer higher South Island clients with both a twenty percent biodiesel mix and with a hundred % biodiesel, fuel was brought to consumers direct or thru associated Petrol and Minitankers. The organization's business expansion meant enormous cafes and food processors had a robust local end-use for their waste vegetable oil and a rising number of the states's cultivatable farmers had another cash-generating break crop they could plant when paddocks needed to be spelled from growing grains.

Biodiesel New Zealand L.T.D set up a Christchurch refinery capable of making 4,000,000 litres of biodiesel yearly - with plans to grow that to 15,000,000 litres - and runs a seed-handling, storage and oil-extraction facility at Rolleston together with a countrywide network to gather used cooking oil. The biodiesel is employed in transport, sea, and economic engines and heating. The Firm has computed that for each tonne of used cooking oil provided to make biodiesel, the country's Greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuels are reduced by at least 2 tonnes, while manufacturing only half of the particulate pollution of mineral oils. It has announced biodiesel fuels make engines less loud, improve lubricating of their fuelinjection elements, and are more safe and simpler fuel to store and handle than petroleum fuels.
